Aug. 17th, 2016 07:38 pmMy FIL had an eye test at SpecSavers today, and I have never in by life been into such a bustling optician's! The shop was *heaving* with people, many of them staff, and Beast reported that he and FIL did not have long to wait even with all that throng. I do prefer the relative peace of the Boots option.
I, meanwhile, was trying to put eight cheques into the Executors' account at NatWest. Hah. Despite offering me the chance to load in up to 50 cheques, the machine resolutely snapped shut after the first cheque—which it also failed to read properly. Foreseeing much wailing and gnashing of teeth at that rate, I took the smart option, which was to write a cheque for the total and put that into the NatWest account, then put the eight cheques, which were in fact in my name, into my own account. Which was easier, though I wished I had thought of it before messing with the machine.
I also loaded up on linseed and dried fruit and pumpkin seeds for my bread-making. I have found a very satisfactory recipe for use in my machine, which involves half wholemeal and half seeded flour and two very generous spoonfuls of mixed seeds added at the appropriate moment. With three of us in the house, one of whom expects to have bread and something for his tea every day, we are getting through the loaves at quite a rate, but way more cheaply than if we were buying them from Sainsburys. Although I seem to be the only person in the house who can slice them to a decent thinness.
My co-entry into this year's Pod Together challenge is A Contingency of Geese, an Agent Carter fic written by Dapatty, who is a miraculously fast worker—the third author to be assigned to me this year, as the first two had to drop out. It's a sweet, atmospheric story and was fun to read. Enjoy!
Hmm. I need a Peggy Carter icon.
