Well, that was quick. I read about a petition to ask the government to cancel Donald Trump's proposed visit to the UK when it was fresh up (well, it had been online for twenty minutes or so, and reached the necessary 100,000 signatures by then). I think it's well on the way to a million now... and the evening news on Radio 4 was full of discussion of Should The Government Cancel? How? Etc?

Personally, I'd rather he came. I'd be there with a rude sign to stand between him and Buck House, as would half the country. Beast has also expressed interest in marching to protest the very existence of Trump.

I made two cakes this weekend. One, a reward for Tristan's suggestion which led to us being able to install the giant shower tray in the space fit only for a small shower tray. It was a chocolate sponge of some sort, but came out very thin and, due perhaps to the vagaries of the oven, perhaps a little overcooked. But there was some of FIL's excellent damson jam and some whipped cream in it, so it was probably okay. Took it to Bunnyhold in the evening and spent a couple of hours there stroking Bun's more sociable cat and watching a film.

Today I made Nigella Lawson's Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake, which is rather better, being nicely moist and squidgy and tasty. Even if the recipe did call for a cup of butter.

Also, finished my seamless sweater, with a rather smart V-neck. It is purple and snuggly. Go me.

Could he visit Scotland? It was great last time he visited Scotland. That balloon hair picture was the best.

Man, I remember the uproar when our PM put his arm around the Queen. I say let him come. Maybe she will punch a Nazi. I mean, if anyone in your country gets to punch a Nazi, the glorious leader of our Commonwealth who goddamnwell fought Nazis should be that person.

I love Nigella Lawson - years ago I had several of her cookbooks and loved her approach to food and cooking.

And I love hearing that people are willing to go out and protest the Donald. It gives me hope. <3

Neither Beast nor I ever marched for or against anything before—which I should remedy, I think—but the orange lout appalls us both.

I should browse through my cookbooks more often. I've taken to asking the internet for recipes, but getting ideas is also a good thing.

It's been amazing watching the petition grow. Sadly it doesn't look like it's going to make any difference, but the huge numbers signing is good to see.

I didn't sign it myself, but I hope all the people who did will be out there protesting the orange lout's presence when he visits. It'll get a lot more embarrassing than if they quietly made other arrangements, I'm sure.

While I sympathize with any locality that must host the current U.S. President, I think he deserves to meet E II, in that she can be coldly polite to him while wearing a pink hat, and the world needs that spectacle. (She can wear an entire pink outfit, to render the hat unexceptionable, perhaps, although pink-on-gray is very striking also.) Agree that as one of the veterans of WWII, she has even higher moral ground than most of the world for giving him as much set-down as she likes.

The only trouble is, I don't know that the orange lout is perceptive enough to notice that he's been snubbed by royalty. But EII in pink for the occasion is an *awesome* thought.

On the one hand, I'm guessing any UK mass protests would be deeply hilarious -- funny signs, orange faces scrunched up in anger, etc. But then, if he gets officially uninvited it might hurt his precious little man feelings, and he'd probably attempt to start a Twitter war with the Queen or something.

If we look at this from a strictly comedic viewpoint, it's a win-win!

I don't think a visit is going to be as, hmm, diplomatically productive as our asinine government might hope, because I devoutly believe that people will be out in force being extremely British at him, and it will raise the spirits of those who do not hold with the orange lout and his team of evildoers.

I usually feel that I did enough marching during my political teens and twenties but if the Orange One will ever come to Sweden (which he hopefully never will!) I'm definitely going to be there with a sign or two!!

I love Nigella's cook books. I don't often cook from them but they're so entertainingly written they're a joy to read.

Congratulations to your new sweater! Purple is a fabulous colour! Will there be pictures maybe?

I really want Charlie to get into it with Drump on climate change if there has to be a state visit. Sometimes the royal family are worth their money...
