Apr. 26th, 2017 11:32 pmIn the last couple of days I have made eight IKEA Billy bookcases. I truly believe I could construct one in the dark.
They are now standing proudly in our new library, and five of the nine (Beast constructed the last one while I was out knitting last night) have been filled with our fiction. (Well, we did have a good prune before moving house.) We had to cannibalise most of the others in order to reduce the size of the shelves (now seven, instead of five, per bookcase), and are contemplating whether the thirteen boxes of non-fic will fit into the remaining shelves or not. Hard to tell… the fiction was in eleven boxes, but the non-fiction books are frequently a lot bigger, so there are fewer of them, and they'll fill out the shelves forwards rather than sideways. The task of trying to figure that out has been left for tomorrow.
So, the Lion's Cage is empty and ready to be dismantled and taken to a new home.
And I'm still weary, but it is nice to see *progress*. Shelves filled with books look more like progress than walls covered in yet another layer of white paint.
Our sitting room, sadly, is exactly half full—and oh, I do mean, full—of boxes. Some are mine, out of the Lion's Cage. I was a bit surprised to find just how many boxes of 'craft stuff' I have…. the rest belong to FIL, for we got them out of storage just after Easter. He can't unpack anything yet because there is still nowhere to put it all, but at least it is no longer costing him money. I did not actually keep track of how many of his boxes contain "Tupperware" (the true answer is, NONE AT ALL), but there are several. Yes, he actually paid to have boxes of empty ice-cream cartons shipped from Australia to the UK and then stored for several months (which, admittedly, he had not anticipated). And yes, I keep telling myself it's his money, but then I look at my sitting room which is half full of boxes, and I mentally compute the number of boxes which contain things of actual value, and I ***&£$%%!**grrrrr.

Date: 2017-04-27 09:50 pm (UTC)The instructions are delightful, and very carefully done! I love in particular the pic where a sole constructor is crossed out, and replaced with a pic of the constructor plus a chum. So cute! And I did have to summon Beast for things like attaching the second side, so it's definitely easier with two.

Date: 2017-04-28 08:19 am (UTC)Hahah, yes, the do not try this alone guide! My shelving had that too but I still did most of it by myself, except with the largest one, because my arms are only so wide! :D But I'm sure it is easier with two people. :)

Date: 2017-04-27 09:52 pm (UTC)It'll be like Christmas when I get to unpack my craft boxes! Of course, that does mean I cannot unleash myself in the local Hobbycraft, which is a pity, but I shouldn't be spending the money anyway.
