We have bees now.

Bunnyhold acquired a hive a little while ago, and bees arrived to claim it; one of her housemates is spreading the joy of bees (with the help of a serious-hobbyist friend) and we received a hive at dead of night on Sunday/Monday this week, having scouted the garden for a suitable spot on Saturday afternoon.

So. Bees.

The kitchen continues to grow! The basic shape is installed, worktops were templated today, and a fabulous oak breakfast bar has been delivered. The fitter is doing a *very* nice job.

Meanwhile the garage is fully bricked (but not yet roofed) and the final chimney has been removed from the house, partially down to ground level (we're keeping two of the fireplaces and getting rid of two). There is still plenty to be done to get things in order, but oh, we are over the worst!

Given a meal of foil-baked fresh salmon, boiled and buttered new potatoes, sweetcorn, and courgettes (one of which you had grown and picked not half an hour before), what element(s) of your plate would you choose to cover with tomato ketchup?

A member of my chorus got married last Friday, and twenty-eight of us went to sing at the wedding. It was lovely! I am partial to weddings anyway, and it was a very pretty, very old church (bits of it 11th century) and a really nice ceremony. Though they did prolong the signing of the register part outrageously—we sang four songs, and the organist played through Panis Angelicus twice and then was on to noodling something else before the photographer allowed everybody to leave... I must say, it is a good wheeze to invite members of a choir to your wedding, because we definitely made our presence felt during the hymns!

Afterwards we sang a handful of numbers outside while photos were happening, and the bride joined us for Bohemian Rhapsody, then two dozen of us set off for Afternoon Tea at a nearby hotel. It was not up to the standards of Camp Sparkle's usual Afternoon Teas (but it only cost £14.95 per person, so I wasn't surprised), and the gigantic platters of cakes included, bizarrely, little pots of panna cotta (and initially, no spoons) as well as various slivers of this and that, profiteroles, triangles of cheesecake and what not. Still, a good time was had, and we were all in our wedding finery and fascinators. I had bought a fascinator for the occasion, figuring that a Serious Hat of my usual type would be a bit too much hat for an occasion where I was no particular connection of the bride's, and indeed, it would have rivalled the bride's mother's hat, which would be wrong. I went into town with the intention of picking up a dark blue or black hatlet, and ended up with something in orange and pink. To those who know me, this will come as no surprise.

Gorilla beekeepers (also known as unstung heroes) installing hives under cover of night!

Also, your hat choices surprise me not at all.

Yay bees! Also, no ketchup, ever, unless chips are involved.

We needed more choir people at our wedding. Bit thin on the singing, IIRC

Bees! Excellent choice for pets.

No ketchup on that meal.

Your orange and pink hatlet sounds delightful, as does the wedding.

Bees! Bees are a great thing to have, if you've got the space. And the courage. (I have neither.)

Ketchup belongs nowhere near salmon. Like, not even in the same *room*, IMHO. Why is this even a question??

I'm not entirely sure what a hatlet is (is it like a fascinator?), but I can tell you right now that I want one in orange!

Over the worst is excellent!

I like bees in theory, and know they're important. I'm still not sure I'd like a hive in my garden. Maybe if it was much bigger.

Bees are awesome!

Tomato ketchup is an abomination that should never be used ever!

Your hatlet sounds delightful. You should totally bring to to Camp so we can admire it.

So many things to be excited about - BEEEEES! fabulous hatlets! progress on house, BEEES! ;)

(Nowhere - ketchup belongs nowhere on that plate - with chips and/or wing/nugget/similarly fried finger food, maybe, and even then - vinegar or mayonnaise might be better...)

Bees! Does that mean you'll eventually have homegrown honey?

Also, yay kitchen!
