Today, we started unpacking FIL's mound of boxes.

I was on FIL duty for the afternoon, Beast having done his share yesterday constructing a sturdy work bench for FIL (and I escaped to Biddy's, which is always fun).

As I watched him check carefully through every one of at least a dozen blank (partial) notebooks to see if there was perchance anything useful written in any of them, as I noted down the innumerable bits of uselessness that went into a 'store in garage' box, as I saw him examine each and every item that came out of the boxes and heard him explain to me at length what it was and why it must necessarily be kept, I felt my soul begin to shrivel.

I am a Very Kind Daughter-in-Law, is all I'm saying.

Plus, one of the large-size boxes—shipped from Australia, lest we forget—is full of plastic bags.

Okay, the box o'bags made me cackle.

I still remember the Cupboard of Bags back when he was moving from a sleepy English seaside town all the way to Oz. We'd already done at least one Tesco's run for more bin bags... from amid the 5,000 or so plastic carrier bags, many of which were so old they shattered into fragments, I unearthed about four rolls of bin bags.

Now, in fairness, the plastic bags in the box (it's about a third of a cubic metre) are, apparently, small plastic bags to be used for freezing vegetables.

Think on that.

Not at present. To be fair, the box only emerged from the picture-rail-high conglomeration of boxes yesterday.

I had suggested to him that he might like to freeze some of the abundant runner beans that he's growing, so I suppose he now has the wherewithal.

I died at the plastic bags! I mean, I have plastic bags stuffed with other plastic bags to use for the waste baskets in the bathrooms, but I'd like to think I wouldn't ship them across the country. But you never really know. *g*

My FIL would scorn merely to ship a giant box of plastic bags across the country. He has shipped them half way around the world!
