Oh, it is magnolia week, and how beautiful those trees are. We pass several on the way to the gym, and they are about perfect. If only they lasted a month!

Has anyone heard of a group called No Little Girl? It appears to be based in Nevada, and to be fighting to ban legal brothels. On the front page of their website, they present a statistic that claims a woman is, wait for it, 1660% more likely to be raped in a rural county with a brothel than in an urban district. They give a reported sexual assault rate 26x higher in rural counties with brothels than rural counties without brothels.

I find this hard to believe. Actually, I find this ludicrous. I'm guessing it's based on some *extremely* flawed statistics, but I have no handle on statistical analysis at all. Also, correlation is not equal to causation.

Does anyone know of a site where this has been examined?

Has, er, has anyone had experience with Soft Claws? I just threatened Fluffy with pink fingernails, and I wonder if it might actually be a good idea! Not for Sable, of course. Not that she doesn't scratch the sofa, but I cannot imagine a scenario that would allow us to put the claw covers on Sable and not have her hide on top of the bookshelves for weeks thereafter. But first, shred our flesh.

But Fluffy would look kinda cool with pink nails... so, pros and cons?

FIL's current project, building a greenhouse under the verandah, is not going to work. We have been looking at options. All of which I find very irritating, because I do not want a tacky greenhouse attached to the front of my house.

OMG, just watched and listened to Janelle Monae's PYNK video. A-may-zing. It was introduced to me as the new vagina anthem, which seems about right.

Also, correlation is not equal to causation.

Indeed!

Factors like "more women report in area X than area Y because they think there is a higher likelihood of the perpetrator being caught"

or "there are fewer barriers to reporting in area X than there are in area Y"

need to be taken into consideration...

Police statistics show how many crimes have been *reported*, not how many crimes *occurred*...

I do not believes that statistic either.
Try this - https://journalistsresource.org/studies/government/criminal-justice/legal-prostitution-reduce-rape-holland

and http://ftp.iza.org/dp9038.pdf

This https://asp.mercatus.org/system/files/Bowen_MGPE.pdf might also be of interest. It suggests a different effect in rich and poor countries. (though it isn't looking just at rape).
