Beast was suggesting that we'd be in trouble if the cats ever figured out how to open the bin (it's a pop-top) just a few days ago, and I assured him that they would not.

I'm a bit worried now! I had not thought to defend the bin against cats—I assumed if they fell in they'd be embarrassed, not opportunistic.
