I recorded the 4th season of 'Sherlock' when it was on Alibi before Christmas (in retrospect, we must have seen the first of the three episodes when it was originally shown) and we finally got round to watching them this week.

Thought it was crap.

The cats were pruned last week, and look small, long-legged, and really cute, with their neat little trimmed bottoms and tidy tummies. They still have magnificent tails. This helps to distinguish them from the interloper cats, one of which sits outside and miaus for about an hour at night.

Sable's progress on the cat flap has been gratifying. She was lured into using it to go out with cunning application of Tasty Sticks, and has now got used to it.

We have now semi-lowered the flap, while cats are outside, so that to get in, they get the flap on their heads briefly. Sable is not impressed with this. I've lured her through once—we are getting through Tasty Sticks at a great rate—but she is now sitting stubbornly outside refusing to try it without a bribe. Beast is trying, right now, to lure her in with a Dreamie. Ah, I detect success!

We went to someone's 80th birthday party on Friday. On the way, Beast and I had the same thought: what do grown-ups do, for parties? Well, it turned out that they have tables and a bar and people sit and chat and then eat and then possibly dance (we danced) and then sing barbershop (this may be less usual). So that was all right.

Last night we had a concert in aid of a local children's hospice project. My chorus was the main focus, but there was a choir of junior school children, and the mixed chorus were also invited, ie we dragged a bunch of the guys along to sing two songs. But it went very well, audience most enthusiastic, and the *s m i l e* on the face of the little girl who won first prize in the raffle was a sight to behold. (It was a giant hamper of chocolate. I would have had a comparable smile, but the hamper would not have been almost as big as me.)

We finished the salted caramel brownies on Thursday. They were *really* good.

I thought I was a grown-up but I have never sung barbershop at my birthday parties -- and now I feel like this was a MASSIVE oversight. (And maybe actually means I'm not officially grown? Possible silver-lining there.) I need to remedy that going forward.

I suppose it does tend to require a quorum of barbershoppers (and at least one in each part), so you'll have to be sure and invite the right kind of people!

Yay for your concert! It sounds very successful. And yay for dancing and singing at a party also.

It was odd to think, wait, what are parties with normal people* like? But it turned out that we did know, after all.


* Well, barbershoppers, but they're fairly normal, overall.

I'm sure your kitties look fantastic.

Last year I got mam's long-haired cat a lion cut. It was quite a surprise to drop off a big ball of fluff, if knotted belly fluff, and came back to a skinned rat with an amazing tufty tail.

Ahaha! I do think they look rather comical, lion-cut, and also grumpy, but that may just be me imagining how I'd feel. I suspect it is highly practical for a long-tailed cat in the summer, but they are hilarious.

Sherlock started off as a really great show, and then they made it all about Sherlock and his past rather than about solving crimes, and totally lost the plot about what had made it a good show in the first place.

Yes! That, plus the apparently inevitable 'plot spirals up its own backside' aspect, which generally means that by the time we get to the end of the episode and the convolutions are explained, I can't remember how it all began and no longer care.

The early episodes, where they modernised Sherlock, were pretty cool.

I know what you mean about losing track of all the convolutions, and the not caring....

Yes, apart from the barbershop that sounds very much like the only two grown-up parties I've gone to in the last twenty years. I suspect I would have enjoyed them much more if there had been barbershop!

Hmm. In the cats' current position you wouldn't be able to see and admire the pruned parts, but I'll see what I can do!

Barbershoppers do tend to sing, when we get together. You never know, one day you may be at, say, a motorway services, and find a bunch of matching ladies or gents bursting into song.
