I must suppose that the people who devised Yoga were all slender persons with long limbs and short bodies. For my stocky torso and short limbs, many of the poses are annoyingly impossible. I cannot, for instance, get my left elbow to the outside of my right thigh while my hands are in prayer position. ALthough my arms are a lot stronger now, thanks to the instructor's insistence on lots of planks with pressups.

Ah well.

Check out curvy yoga in youtube! There are videos by actual fat women doing yoga! They do different versions to accomdoate bodies and where you are in your practise.

Interesting - I think if I were doing the yoga at home, I'd find quite a lot of that useful. Less so in the Fitness Yoga class. The instructor does provide options, and things like the bird pose some of them did today are always optional - just as well, as my hands couldn't get to the ground!

Yes, back when I was younger and fitter and not-Disabled,

I found I could not do many yoga poses

that involved bending over or facing downwards on all fours

because my round-belly would get in the way of me holding the pose AND being able to breathe properly!

We had a discussion about Lizard pose and the impossibility of resting your chest on your leg if you have either stomach or boobs the other day.

There are a lot of poses that I simply am not flexible enough to do.

I am HYPER-flexible - so flexible that it actually causes me problems in non-yoga daily living, so flexible that I probably have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome - and my breasts and belly STILL prevented many poses.
