Poor Sable. She has been making uncomfortable hacking noises occasionally for a couple of days, but seemed to be getting on with life until yesterday, when she moped in her cat-basket-dish instead of taking any interest in her supper. Sable is very food-motivated, so we knew there was something wrong.

We were able to get her an appointment to see the vet at 2pm. She was very listless, though she did climb back into the hated cage once the vet had examined her... only to find she was imprisoned there for the afternoon so they could sedate her and investigate further. In the end she had to be anaesthetised so that they could remove a large stalk of grass - about 4" of it, bent in half - from the back of her throat. Afterwards she was sulky and misanthropic and refused to eat, but we picked her up at 5.30 and brought her home. From the moment the cage was out of the car she was entirely excited to be Home, Home! She nommed all her squishy dinner and checked out Fluffy's bowl for leftovers, *and* begged for cheese. I am a soft touch.

Anyway, all seems to be well, although both cats are now roaming in the garden and it is time for me to go to bed.

Poor kitty! I'm glad the vet was able to get in their so swiftly, and hope she's all the way recovered soon!

The vet process was incredibly fast! Not cheap, but considering there was actual surgery, albeit not the cutting-her-open kind, it was pretty good value. She seems absolutely fine now.

Poor wee kit, she must have been so miserable - I'm glad it ended up being such a straightforward fix (not that sedation is easy right enough, but you know what I mean).

Indeed, yes. Apparently they've had a lot of cats with this same problem lately. I wonder whether there's some particular quality in the grass that makes it awkward.

She does seem to be the one who does the stupid stuff - like living in a tree for three days last year! Fluffy just kills things...

Poor Sable! I'm glad they found out what was wrong (I didn't know things like that could happen!) and that she's home again and well.

It's apparently quite common for cats to get grass stalks stuck in their throats, which I hadn't known either. So they knew just what to do. She was *so* pleased to get home!

She's definitely back to normal. \o/ It's quite useful having a cat who always eats, because it makes it easy to tell if she's off-colour.

It was a surprisingly huge piece of grass. Apparently quite common. She has plainly forgiven us for leaving her with strangers, as she snuggled my knee last night.

Foolish cat, she should learn to *chew* the grass and *then* swallow it.
