FIL had his first cataract done yesterday, so Beast and I are now sharing the administering of eye drops and ointment several times a day. He was filled with trepidation beforehand, but seems to be doing quite well. I was interested to see that he came out of the clinic wearing a transparent, domed eye shield: when my Grandma had hers done, probably around 20 years ago, she had a bandage over the eye, and later, a pirate-style eye patch.

This sore throat is blighting my life. I can't sing, so no rehearsal for me tomorrow and no competition on Monday evening. It is very sad. They will maraud onto the stage, and I shall miss it! On reflection, I could possibly go and watch.

I did spend quite a lot of Monday working on a bit of embroidery/beading, on piece of fancy felt that I acquired at Fibre East or somewhere of that sort at least a year ago. It was very pleasant to sit in the dining room, listening to 'The Amber Spyglass" read by the author, and with characters voiced by actors, and sewing. Frustrating, though, how often the thinnest of needles and the slenderest of silk thread nonetheless would not go through the bead holes, so that I had to thread the silk through and re-thread the needle. Very time-consuming.

Read a delightful book yesterday, "Swordheart" by T Kingfisher, which [personal profile] vae kindly lent me. A nicely down-to-earth sort of story, fantasy but not about Saving The World, just getting a few practical matters sorted. And very funny indeed. The word 'Yay!' will forever have fresh connotations for me, now, and will probably make me giggle helplessly.

I hope both you and the FiL recover nicely, particularly your sore throat. I can just imagine how inconvenient it is for you!

Oh, I love "Swordheart!" It's such fun. Her Clockwork Boys books are in the same universe, also good but in a different way (less funny, bit more creepy), and also feature gnoles, which are one of my favourite parts.

Sorry to hear about your sore throat. I hope it's better soon, and I think going to witness the Marauding is a very good idea if you feel up to it.

I don't remember my grandmother having an eyepatch after her cataract operation but maybe she did. It was a great success in any case and hopefully your FIL's is the same.

How very frustrating for you. Hopefully you'll soon start getting better *sends lots of healthy thoughts*

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Monday, even with the needle frustration.

I 've just finished Swoodheart! Loved it too. Now go read "Clockwork Boys" by the same author.

Sending wishes for good healing for your FIL, and for you! That's a shame you had to miss out on joining the competition.
