Our local butcher

(a) has very good meat (organic, free range and local), which I knew before;
(b) has plenty of meat available to buy, which is a relief after the state of Sainsbury's;
(c) makes absolutely superb scotch eggs! We had some today for tea - will never eat Sainsbury's scotch eggs again.

The butcher is excellent, and I'd already started buying meat mostly-exclusively from there because of its being free range and from local farms. It's also very good - so nice to have chicken that tastes of chicken, and their pork joints are splendid! They win the 'Best Sausage' category in the local food festival pretty well every year, too.

I'm not entirely sure how traditional butchers have managed to survive, but I think it must be because they provide a better product than most of what is obtained in the supermarkets. Both the butchers in this vicinity are pretty good, but Archers is nearer and has more variety. They even sell quail's eggs!
