A domestic accident
Apr. 17th, 2020 03:29 pmMy brain is weird. I mean, I did the pyramids exercises this morning (including a set of 15 pressups, 15! Bow down!), as a result of which I felt virtuous and ready to eat healthily. So we had baked sweet potatoes and a spicy bean mix with a bit of chorizo, all very delicious. And then, of course, having eaten healthily I felt it appropriate to indulge in some ice cream. A pity, really, that the urge to be healthy only survives until I have eaten my dinner.
In this instance, however, it was just as well.

So I went to get the ice cream out. And discovered that the top layer of the freezer was awash with dark red liquid, and all the ice cream tubs were squishy.
Yes, the freezer had been turned off. My doing, most likely, by nudging the switch in the cupboard to Off when I put a box back in there. And as I'd not gone to the freezer for anything for…. an unknown number of days, and there was also no telltale puddle (the freezer defrosted quite gracefully, for a change), we had an entire freezer full of soggy stuff.
The ice cream, we ate (at least, I ate my tub until I got down to what looked like water, at which point I didn't want it any more). The spinach, peas, and mixed berries (source of the red liquid) have gone on the compost heap. I hope the dessert will survive in the fridge until Sunday, and we'll be eating the ham hocks tomorrow. Sweetcorn is in the fridge, and we shall see.
From Sunday, we will be eating turkey for about a fortnight. I bought one at Christmas, intending to keep it frozen and eat it at my big birthday party in June. Hah. Not that I think there will be a big birthday party in June anyway…. but unless it smells evil when I open the plastic wrapping, it is going to last us a very long time.
Damn it.

Date: 2020-04-17 03:18 pm (UTC)Though I'm relieved the red liquid was berries, I was imagining all sorts of defrosting meat stuff.

Date: 2020-04-17 03:34 pm (UTC)Eek. As a long time vegetarian, I assumed melted popsicles; melted icecream; or berries.
Meat stuff hadn't even occurred to me! *shudders at the idea of gross defrosted meat stuff*
