Back in March/April/May first lockdown era, about a thousand years ago, I didn't know anyone with COVID, or know anyone who knew anyone with COVID, at least not that I can recall.

This time round, though, it keeps creeping nearer. Three weeks ago I knew of a couple of colleagues-of-acquaintances; last week one of my chorus members announced that her daughter had it; this evening, someone at the Zoom rehearsal admitted to feeling grotty all day and being unable to smell anything…

I'm not in physical proximity to any of these people, but knowing people who know people who have it, and then knowing people who have it…. It's getting closer. *shudders*

Interesting map linked at Pharyngula, showing the risk of the coronavirus joining your Thanksgiving feast. Stay safe, everyone.

One of my coworkers seemed to have a serious case of it. A friend that we have not seen since before the pandemic and who seemed fairly careful had it along with her whole family. A friend who is a doctor and her child had it. My child's second grade teacher and all three of her children had it.

It's frightening. I'm having a similar experience of the cases I hear of getting closer and closer to my "inner circle" and it just gets more and more unsettling.

I read somewhere today that around forty percent of Americans aren't planning to do Thanksgiving any differently this year. I'm appalled -- but not surprised.

I'm tangential to a lot of people who have to work with the general public, sometimes without the ability to properly social distance and often without all the PPE they should really have, so I have always known colleagues with it, although thankfully everyone seems to be recovering okay eventually, but you're right, it's moving much closer and it's not fun (I mean, I barely leave the house, and I'm not doing anything differently now than I was before, so it's not personally affecting, but it's... definitely increasingly more a thing).
