Both of us seem to have shifted our sleeping hours forward, and are happy to wake up early. This for me is very odd, but it does seem to be true that if I try to go to sleep between 10 ad 11pm, I succeed, and if I wait until later, I'm likely to be awake for a while after the light is out. I suppose over the past two weeks I became accustomed to springing out of bed early to help Beast get his dad sorted for the day.

We went out at lunchtime, despite Sable's displeasure. Took the first two of many carrier bags full of FIL's clothes to Oxfam (I seriously believe he wore no more than 2% of the clothes he owned), then had cod and chips from the excellent Grosvenor F'sh Bar. Really fresh fish and chips is *so* good.

Went to call at the Virgin Money shop, bought Too Many Brownies(1)(2) from the macaron shop, bought many weeks' supply of shattered Brazils and crystallised ginger from the Grape Tree, then went to the surgery for me to have my second vaccine. Much quicker than the first time through, they have obviously got it down to a fine art. Arm is, so far, very slightly sore.

Beast heroically walked home while I was there, and came back for me with the car. My hips don't seem to take well to walking, these days, which is annoying because the rest of me (except, perhaps, my ankles) is perfectly willing.

This evening, experienced appalling cramp in the muscle at the front of my left shin. No idea why.

People are oddly slow to collect Freecycle stuff. It's free! Take it! And if you aren't going to come and collect it, say so, because other people want it, too.

I made the dough for a small sourdough loaf last night, proved it in the oven, and intended to knock it back and prove it overnight in the fridge. After turning the oven off, I forgot all about it, so it spent the night in the cold oven. I gave it a brief knead and about three hours this afternoon, then baked it, and it seems to have turned out quite well, though I think I detect a bit more of a sourdough taste than usual.

It feels quite weird to be posting about a more or less normal day, but not avoiding mentioning dementia and the state of the FIL.

(1) This concept may be hard to grasp.
(2) One of the'brownies' is a Bakewell slice. Beast picked out three different things, and the assistant cunningly offered us four for a special price, so what were we to do? We cut them all in half, saved half the halves for tomorrow and cut half the halves in half to eat this evening.

I hope the clearing of his possessions goes as smoothly as it can, and reclaiming your time as your own too.

Your sourdough sounds delicious!

That sounds like a productive trip out with lots of tasty things to eat.

When we had to get rid of mam's clothes so many of them were still brand new with tags. Great for the charity shops but all I could think was, what a waste of money for her.

OMG, I feel you on the clothes thing. Mom wouldn't let us give her clothes to charity shop unless they didn't fit anymore, but 80% are work clothes that she definitely will never wear. It's frustrating.

Good luck going through all the things and I'm glad you enjoyed your fish and chips. When done well, it is soooo good.

{{{hugs}}}

I refuse to believe there is any such thing as Too Many Brownies :-)
