that plan includes me getting my own planet

Well! I am now sitting at my computer in my craft room, after a lot of running around, measuring and carrying stuff hither and yon. I have both my computers (the old one runs Photoshop properly, but we don't let it talk to the internet) and the printer in a long line of repurposed kitchen worktop, a table that belonged to my grandma, a chest of drawers that belonged to my grandma (full of Paper), and all the kitchen cupboards, which are filled and labelled so that I don't forget what is in them. I have actual speakers attached to the computer again! And my NSYNC dolls are smiling at me from the windowsill.

The light situation... remains to be seen. I have a french door (into the poxy lean-to greenhouse) facing west but shielded by giant bushes, plus a window and a skylight facing south. And some rubbish spotlights with dimmer switches that call down the gods of epilepsy, I swear. There may need to be changes made! And, I think we need one of those clothes horses that hang from the ceiling - what are they called? The ceiling in this room is pointy and would be excellent for drying clothes.

Anyway! My Beast worked very hard, swapping table legs and sorting cables and carrying monitors, and so we had sourdough pancakes with egg and bacon for tea.

It was always the plan that the Old Kitchen should be my craft room, and the study should be Beast's territory, but of course, we made the study into Grandpa's sitting room, and the kitchen into his kitchen/computer room. It is nice to have that, now.

Sounds like a great setup! It's so satisfying to have all one's equipment in the right place. I hope you can figure out a lighting solution that you like, too.

It is nice! Also, in the moving process, I cleared my desk.... it won't last, of course, but it is rather nice to have a tidy, orderly working space.

You can get really good flat panel LED lights that make an amazing difference.
We've installed them in all our rooms now, except the loo!

We'll definitely be looking at LEDs for the solution, when we get round to it. I think the spotlights in here date from when the original kitchen extension was done, probably 1990s, and I suspect spotlights were The Thing to use in kitchens then - which is ridiculous, because in this kitchen at least, you're always casting a shadow on the very thing you want to see! Anyway, away with them!

That's why I like the ceiling panels. They give an even light from above and it's spread out.

We have some nice LED long lights up in the garage, and I think will probably put one of those up in the kitchen end to replace the obnoxious spotlights. Can't imagine what whoever 'designed' the 'lighting plan' was thinking when they made this room, though!

It's wonderful to hear you have a proper craft room! I seem to remember this was what you'd originally planned for that room before Beast's dad moved in with you, right? And I definitely remember how wonderfully airy it was with that high ceiling. I'm really looking forward to seeing it the next time I visit.

That's right! The idea was to build the new kitchen and then change this room into craft territory - but it turned out to be very useful to have two kitchens for several years, and I managed with all my Stuff in the dining room. But it is nice to have the dining room looking elegantly empty now.
