it's very fresh
Oct. 4th, 2021 05:59 pmHad a very delicious lunch today!
Aldi had Ostrich Steaks for sale, which seemed like an excellent idea. We've given up beef, but I do like a steak, so I bought some, and miraculously managed to cook them perfectly. There were also green beans straight from the beanstalk, mushrooms cooked in butter, and home made oven chips with smoked salt and garlic pepper. Truly a fine feast!
We exercised this afternoon, which is unusual for us: we'd planned to go into town so that Beast could put some money into the chorus account, but it turns out that Barclays apparently close their counter service at 2pm—which seems so weird I'm seriously wondering whether it can really be true, even if it is up on their website. So we'll go tomorrow morning instead, and probably be rained on. I might have to try and seek out some new trainers, as I have worn large toe-holes in my current pair.

Date: 2021-10-04 09:24 pm (UTC)It is a bit harder giving up dairy, because Cheese, but we are making reasonable strides in that direction.

Date: 2021-10-05 03:37 pm (UTC)They shut the Barclays in our town completely. Now you have to travel to Sunderland if you want to go into a branch. While we do all our banking online, a lot of people must have been negatively affected by the closure.

Date: 2021-10-05 08:47 pm (UTC)Turned out when Beast got to the Barclays he wasn't allowed to pay into the account there because he didn't have an account with them. WTF? It was cash, even! So he had to go back to our bank and do a transfer. What a waste of time.
I've not switched to banking online, but my banking requirements are few and it feels like it's good for me to go into town sometimes if I need to deal with the bank. But Barclays plainly don't feel any need to make things easy for their customers.

Date: 2021-10-06 10:57 am (UTC)Yeah, that's a particularly odd specimen of bank, I think. Ours follows the old-fashioned banking hours of 10-3.30 (so that transactions may not go through until the following day) but is actually *open* 9 - 5, which is a lot handier.
