I don't read Captain Awkward nearly as often these days now there are no comments to the stories, but I had a look through and oh my, I like this page. The absent questions hang horribly in the air like a gamekeeper's rotting gibbet, and the answers are very sound.

It was Sable's official birthday yesterday. She is.... FIVE! She celebrated with a few morsels of salmon, and sat on my lap in the evening as I knitted.

She was unimpressed on Friday—the day when, hurrah, the drillers departed at last, leaving the back garden brown but flat. Because it was also the day when the plumbers arrived to take stock of the job of replacing the radiators, and indeed embarked upon it, with much noisy drilling and movings of furniture. They made a good start, which is a relief. I *really* hope the plumbing stage won't overrun the way the drilling did.

We also had the scaffolding put up yesterday along the northern wall of the house, so that insulating cladding can be applied, um, soon.

It's quite a relief to have things be happening with reasonable speed!

Happy belated birthday, Sable! Five already. It sounds like she's continuing to make steps to being an excellent lap cat.

I hope all these new things are finished fast and you get your house back to yourself asap.

It's so nice to see that she now understands she is a cherished little cat. Although she seems to forget, first thing in the morning, that she is *always* given breakfast, because she shouts for it!

I would so much like all the upheaval to be over. And for my Boy's house move to be completed. I love him dearly, and he's really no trouble, but I want my house back!

I do hope it all goes well, and in good time for us to get our subsidy, too. If not, it will cost a fortune.

The cats were about a year old when we got them, so I made their official birthday the anniversary of adoption day. :-)

Sometimes, I bail on reading her answers because they are so long.

I think stopping the comments was sound.

Ask a Manager has kept them going, but the quality has gone down as the blog has gotten bigger. With so many commenters, there is a commenter-group-think that happens sometimes. People get hyperfocused on one part of a letter and just go off in a very hyperbolic direction and do not view the letter as a whole.

It's so true that after a while the comments get a group-think vibe, which makes for a less interesting read. I sometimes think a numerical cap on comments-per-post would be good, it might make people think twice about rambling off on tangents, and suchlike.

A belated happy birthday to Sable from me and Lancecat!

I hope both the plumbers and the insulators will done soon. It's so stressful to have other people in and around your house every day.

Funnily enough, they have all gone! Not that the jobs are finished, but the plumbers ran out of radiators and the insulators have fitted the first layer and will need to wait for the right weather before they can continue. So the house is quiet *and* still warm.
