pensnestSo far the lack of proper computer is not a major problem—and the absence of the regular tonnage of spam is quite nice. Mostly, it's been because we have been doing Stuff.
Went to a mini music festival on Saturday, in a friend's (very lovely) garden. I was quite an active participant, singing in both the women's chorus and the mixed, performing My Favourite Story (in which Pooh goes visiting and gets into a Tight Place), and singing with a very newly-formed quartet. There was good food, good company, and a variety of entertainment in which I did not have to participate, as well.
Sunday was a full day of mixed chorus rehearsal. Our MD has Covid, and was perforce absent, but our noble deputy MD stepped up and did very well. I think we made progress, and we certainly got the songs more stickily into our heads. I'd made apple cake and millionaire's shortbread, and brought none at all home.... but there were some slices of millionaire's left from the music festival, so my Beast was not completely deprived.
Today it was Boot Camp at the gym, a class not perhaps quite as tough as it sounds, given that I have arthritis I had some options and did not do burpees or jump squats, but it was a solid workout. After lunch I did as Monty bid me, and trimmed quite a few leaves from the pumpkins: there is now an orange pumpkin, a football-sized green one, a not-quite football sized green one, and a couple of babies burgeoning. Also trimmed the blackcurrant bushes, though as they have not been nurtured probably since they were planted, I have no idea how successful they will be next year. Then spent quite a lot of time re-tying the tomato jungle and removing more leaves. My goodness! We have now had a couple of tomato salads. The courgettes are of course getting a bit out of hand, though we had two large ones for lunch. I forgot to give any to Bun and her Chap when they were here a week ago, which was a sad mistake.
It's twenty to nine, and dark! Strange how there seems to be so much summer left, yet so little evening. And it's going to be back up to the high twenties tomorrow and Wednesday, sigh. I really cannot remember such a long, hot, dry spell. Though to be fair, I have only tenuous memories of the weather in 1976, when some of my classmates paddled in the depleted weir, and everyone 'revised' on mats in the back garden of the boarding house. I think the school play, in which I was cast as Robert de Beaudricour, Squire of Vaucouleurs, occupied more of my time than sunbathing.

It's been very dry here too all summer so I hope we will both get plenty of rain SOON!
