Happily for all concerned, I did not kill a cyclist on Friday. I truly did not see him as I entered the roundabout, but fortunately Beast did, and bellowed Stop! to good effect. Don't know why I did not see the cyclist, but very slightly in my defence—for I should have done—although he had lights fore and aft, he was actually presenting to me directly sideways, so neither of the lights was actually visible and there was no reflective clothing. Cyclists and roundabouts are a dangerous mix. But I should have seen him.

Bun took me out for my Christmas present last night! We had a very pleasant dinner, then on to see Mama Africa at the Playhouse. A most interesting one-woman show about Miriam Makeba and the struggle against apartheid. Quite a tour de force by Anna Mudeka, who sang splendidly and acted most movingly. An excellent Christmas present.

I was oddly detached, and it's strange - I think if I had spotted the cyclist justintime, I'd have had a more physical reaction.

It's good to go to unexpected theatre!

Sheesh. I do wish that cyclists and runners and things would wear more visible clothing at dusk/night, they absolutely don't know how invisible they are and it's definitely safer for them if they make it easier to see them.

That sounds like a VERY satisfactory evening altogether, good.


And thank you for the Buchaneers recc - I've been watching it with mum and we've been MOST entertained by the fact that they're using Ailsa Craig and Bass Rock interchangably as the lump off rock off Tintagle (they're on opposite sides of the country, and quite different shapes... if you know them :D) and castle/stairs/bits of places identification as well as the general enjoyment

Reflective clothing would be *so* helpful. I mean, motorists do not in general actually *want* to hit cyclists...

I'm not surprised the geography is treated as cavalierly as the history. But it is fun, isn't it!

Eeep - that must have been quite the adrenaline dump for all involved! (Visibility in low light as a pedestrian is why my main winter coat is white...)

Oddly, I remained quite calm. I'm sure that if I had spotted the cyclist last-minute for myself, I'd have been massively affected, but somehow being told to stop, and stopping *fast*, was easier to deal with.

The show was a very interesting experience, and educational too. Somewhat to my surprise—for Norfolk is very white, in general—the actor-singer who performed the show is local.
