I feel it is important to inform you all that the squirrels have now chewed their way through the squirrel feeder. The perspex front has been gnawed loose and is now lost for ever.
But why would they chew through something when they can get into it anyway?!! I'm starting to suspect that your squirrels ENJOY being contrarian and doing things the hard way.
Our squirrel-and-bluejay feeder is made of wire. No chewing! Though I have caught squirrels trying to chew their way in through my window. I carefully applied a layer of squirrel hot sauce.
Lol! I mean, I guess it's not unreasonable from a squirrel point of view. Sticking your head inside a bin probably doesn't feel great if you're a small prey animal who likes to keep an eye out for danger, so they went for the direct access solution.
Can you replace the perspex with a bit of wire mesh?
that's a certain kind of efficiency, right? I like the idea of replacing the perspex with wire mesh = maybe some birds will get revenge stealing nuts from the squirrels!
