Rejoice with me, for my house has a floor!

I should probably go back a bit and explain that no, we did not have a gaping hole down to the cellar, there was in fact floor before, but we have had the world's tiniest extension built to give our house a front door of reasonable size (the original one having been, in fact, the back door, and tiny), which meant a couple of square metres (ish) of concrete by the new door. The ancient green carpet to the main hallway through the house was hideous, and covered elderly and unattractive parquet.

Beast spent a good deal of time removing the carpet and the parquet slivers—each one held to the floorboards by four nails!—and was very proud of himself when the Man From Karndene found no nails at all in the floor. Which was boarded with ply (much to the cat's annoyance, for Sable does not care for Strange Men in Her House, especially when they make Loud Noises), and flattened with latex screed, before being covered with a wooden plank effect tile which looks really good, and will probably enable Sable to drift round corners, should she so wish. She may not be able to do otherwise, indeed.

Anyway, it all looks very nice. The steps are neatly edged, etc, and the Man from Karndene even replaced the vertical carpet piece on the bottom stair so that there is no gap. In a few days' time, my Beast and I will be able to put back the coat rail, and figure out how best to display my hats and scarves. And we shall have a proper entrance way at last!

oooh, karndene is LOVELY flooring, and it stays lovely so long, too (and the cat corner drift is simply an added bonus). I know one ends up paying for the privelge of the great product and great service, but it'll be so fab.

That has been an epic quest - I am glad that you have managed to steer it all to a satisfactory result! I look forward to admiring it in person at some point ;)
