pensnestSomeone among you, and I cannot remember who, inquired recently as to the date fixed for Cramp Day. Obviously, there can be no other date than today fit to celebrate such a pairing, although, astonishingly, LJ has not been awash with anticipation of the event. Nonetheless, I would like to contribute my mite, before they take me away.
Fourteen Lines
My sole companion through the dark of night
I pray you never dim your incandescence;
My life is brightened where you shed your light,
Out of the sight of screaming adolescents.
The scarlet splendor of your flowing wax
Rising and swelling, marvellous to see,
Heating the liquid in which it reacts,
Has very much the same effect on me.
What matter that they do not understand
The urges that the spirit undergoes?
Affairs that rule the heart are never planned
And many love, and yet dare not disclose.
A man can grow so tired of his hand,
And need some help from something warm that glows.
