Stuffs, of personal joy
May. 14th, 2006 12:03 pmQuite an industrious day yesterday. While Beast mowed the lawn, I uprooted about three dozen baby ash trees (and many other things, too) from my flowerbeds. Pestilent things. I don't even know where they came from, but the little blighters have deep roots. Then we set about the bathroom carpet, replacing the always-hideous and of-late covered-in-decorating-debris orange thing with a tasteful new piece of beige stuff. Well, I say 'we', it was mostly Himself; once the carting carpets up and down stairs (into the garage for preliminary cutting), and removing the bathroom door, had been done, I merely formed a decorative background and made encouraging noises. And after that, the menfolk put nails into the wall to reposition my staircase pictures and add to them two respectable (30.5" square) canvases which I bought, gleefully, on Friday.
So now I have Art* in the house, as opposed to 'stuff I made' and 'stuff my mother made'. I have a good, good life.
Not to say that some of what my mother did wouldn't reasonably be classified as art, that is. My "Gorgon's Head" is a lovely thing. I discovered this week that my mother was a mostly-qualified Librarian, and worked at Hong Kong University before I was born. Most pleasing. It's sad that I know so little about her, and silly that it took me so long to realise it.
debsfarm, what do you know that I don't? (Aside from the nasty bits, of course.)
I see a gratifying number of people have already filled in the
sparklyukfans poll about the proposed Camp Sparkle dates - if you haven't done so, pootle on over and see what's what. Check out the link to the venue. Do the 'virtual tour'. Decide for yourself whether you really want to miss this... Of course you don't. Details are here.
And today, I hope to acquire an MD for the panto. And maybe, maybe I shall get down to writing something. I'm all a-twitch. Also, I dreamt I was married to Harry Potter. I was 35 and he, still at school. Very odd.
* Well. My Beast is largely indifferent, but I Like Them, so. I think that counts.
