I'm trying to train the cat to understand that I don't have to be in the kitchen for there to be food.

But the food dispenser hasn't opened yet.

She is now lying on the floor next to me, Dying Of Hunger.

Is the phrase "to get up someone's nose" something Americans would recognise and use, or is it a very British thing?
