30 days of fanfic meme, day 5
Jun. 30th, 2011 02:30 pm5. If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
Usually it works out very well. For instance, when I was writing The White Room, I really didn't know what was going to happen, but I'd sit at the computer and write, and then stop, and go and get a coffee and perhaps tidy the kitchen a bit, and when I came back to the computer there was more. Well, Kelly arrived in the story and she was exactly what the story needed, so I was very happy with that. I've no idea how I would have ended it if she hadn't!
There was also my Cinderella story, A Night at the Palace, in which I was pretty sure Justin was destined to be the handsome prince but I somehow couldn't make it work, and Kevin turned up instead and everything was fine.
I can't immediately think of another time when a character has 'just arrived', but I think it has happened occasionally. I figure, if they want to join in, it's best for me to let them.
