Things that are awesome today

Before the Backstreet concert in Manchester we had Afternoon Tea, which featured among a great many tasty things, *giant* scones with jam and cream.

And now, an image to make *everyone* jealous:



Nopseud's new shoes.

Apropos of neither of these things, a rather larger image because I am very excited about the little patch of garden next to my front door.



Aren't my tulips beautiful! And the acer, too. And I hope the heucheras will thrive there.

Your tulips are beautiful. Just in time for Easter too.

It was probably the biggest scone I've ever eaten. And very good, too.

Sadly, we won't be here to see them over Easter, but I suspect they'll be on the wane—tulips really don't seem to last very long, especially 'parrot' ones like the frilly ones here.

Those shoes are absolutely fabulous! And your garden is lovely. I don't have one myself but I love being in them, and the flowering season is beginning here in Sweden too (though the spring has been rather chilly).

I have bouts of extreme gardening enthusiasm (which doesn't really extend to regular weeding, but I plant stuff), and it's very gratifying to watch things grow. Mostly they do it without much interference from me, of course. The flowers seem early this year, because we are having an incredibly mild Spring.

I am immune to sparkly trainers, but love heucheras.

The heucheras in my raised bed at the side of the drive are looking very splendid indeed and threatening to come into flower quite soon. These three—well, the little yellow-leafed one might be giving up—were going to be over-grown by the mighty shrub that bursts into life and magenta flowers in the early summer, so I thought they could have a more prominent home. I like heucheras too.

Do you happen to have any idea what a little shrub whose leaves smell of mint and which makes incredibly bright magenta flowers might be? The garden people planted it (two, indeed, slightly different sized flowers) and I don't know what they are!

Your tulips are gorgeous, but I've fallen in love with your little maple! I planted a little bloodgood last fall, so adorable. Is yours a cutleaf?

It does have very spiky, open leaves, so I think the answer must be yes. I am very partial to Japanese maples.

And so is your border! I love the tulips, they're like bright exclamation marks. And the white border on the leaves are really cool. The heucheras are also very pretty and colourful.

It's just a shame the tulips have such a short time a-blooming. Bt the osteospermum and the heucheras will continue, and those white-bordered leaves are s you say reasonably decorative.

Oh, they have flowered most beautifully! and with feathery edges - little tulip boas!

They are like little frilly lumps of raspberry ripple ice cream.

That is one massive scone! I am properly jealous.

Which reminds me - it is possible that amidst all the planning Saba and I forgot to ask if we could stay with you for a night before and after Camp. Did we? SORRY. And please? :) We'll be flying in and out of Heathrow (5pm and 6 pm respectively), so we can probably take busses to/from Hemel. Or something. Will look into that in more detail later.

You'll certainly be able to stay - I know there is a very respectable bus service, so if we can't deal with driving for whatever reason (like, someone has to be collected from/delivered to Stansted) it won't be a problem to get you here/there. :-)
