We were doing various tasks in the garden yesterday when a small deer started hurtling about and trying to leap the (6' high) fences. I tried to help it out by opening the gate into Ancient Forest, but I think it fought its way through a hedge in the end and into the neighbour's garden instead. It was a lot sturdier than I'd have expected a small—presumably a Muntjack—deer to be. I do hope it doesn't end up in the swimming pool one day.

My Beast is being very noble and has spent much of today adjusting and amending the gutters around the garage and front door. I am not one for ascending ladders, but did assist briefly by handing him drill, screwdriver, scalpel, screws etc. And provided moral support. And also a very nice curry at the local curry place, a pleasant 25-minute walk away. We were the only patrons in the entire restaurant, which must have been a bit depressing for the staff.

... How did it get into the garden in the first place? Well, I hope it found its way out eventually.

That is very noble of your Beast. I await the announcement of self-fixing, -cleaning, -etc. gutters. ::looks askance at gutters::

I remain baffled about where the deer came from; I can only suppose it visited next-door first, crashed through the hedge for reasons of its own, encountered us and went crazy for a bit, then went back the way it came in. I hope next-door's immaculate garden did not suffer too much!

Self-cleaning gutters would be a very excellent thing. Although, simple and straightforward roofs are also of the good, which I had not considered until we moved here and have a roof that is all kinds of complicated and festooned with gutter. Sigh.
