Well, I aten't ded.

Beast and/or his dad found this in the garden last night.



It was growing beneath the apple tree. I'd never seen one before. Have you?

Just to give you a clearer idea of the size of the thing,



It's a puffball, an edible fungus. Which I'd always thought were about the size of ping pong balls, but in this case, apparently not. Beast did some internet searching, and we had some fried slices of it last night. And survive to tell the tale.

There is a great deal of it left!

Only, foraging sounds to me as though one actually has to be looking for stuff, and I think the menfolk just sorta noticed it was there. I shall have to see if there are more.

wow - that's a BIG fungus! I've seen puffballs, but never any that size. your family could eat on that for several days if you were in the mood

Well, what we haven't eaten so far is looking a bit horror-film-ish now, so I think quite a bit of it is going to waste!

Ooh, giant puffball! The regular ones are about golf ball-sized, but the giant ones have been mistaken for sheep.

I had no idea they were that big. Sadly, it tastes like very weak mushroom, which is a bit disappointing. I think I'd assumed that something wild would be more flavoursome.

That is quite a thing! Do you think you'll keep eating it, or was one taste enough?

Well, it wasn't *that* tasty - like mushroom, but rather watered down. And the bits that have not yet been eaten kinda look like zombie brain now, so I think not!

I was extremely wary, I assure you! Still, we ate... some of it.

*boggles* I'd no idea puffballs could become that large! What did it taste like?

Mushroom flavoured, but not as flavoursome as cultivated mushroom, which was a bit of a shame.

I can't believe you were brave enough to actually eat any of that.

I'm kinda surprised myself, actually. I was hoping it would be delicious enough to make me feel, Wow, that was So Worth It, but it was a bit bland.
